Why do we do front squats? We do front squats to help us recover from the bottom of a clean. Front squats build leg strength and a lot of core strength, they require an upright torso, so there is less torque on the low back. Somewhere along the line in this country, weightlifters got the reputation of being big, fat guys lifting something (most people aren’t even sure what lifts they do). Actually, these athletes are very lean and athletic – this group shown here looks about the size and shape of your typical NFL running back. Watch how they come out of the hole in their cleans – this is why they – and we do front squats.
