Great article here by Tommy Suggs on squat depth.  There is so much bad information on the squat, and because of this, when you observe people “squatting” at most gyms you will see a crappy half or quarter squat that does not involve the hamstrings, glutes, adductors, or extrenal rotators.  A lot of people squat this way because they use more weight doing a half squat and it strokes their ego to see more plates on the bar.  Others squat inappropriately because they think doing a full squat is bad for their knees.  This article will clear this up once and for all:  http://startingstrength.com/index.php/site/full_squats_or_not
